Thanks to the fantastic advice here I had decided staying in the 4th - Le Marais, was the way to go for my first trip to Paris..
Then I decided perhaps an apartment would suit me to the ground..
I am travelling alone, so am thinking most nights I will wish to eat lightly in my hotel/apartment, or very close by so I am close to %26#39;home%26#39;..
I love walking, so am very keen to experience Paris on foot as much as I can, having recently had such a wonderful time traversing Manhattan primarily on foot!
However, I am having trouble finding accomodation that is %26quot;grabbing%26quot; me, so to speak!
And now I am liking the look of Hotel Muguet - in a totally different area to the one I thought I had settled upon!
So, my question is: what is the area like surrounding the Muguet (7th arr).. in terms of shops, food markets, cafes/restaurants, general atmosphere etc?
How will my Paris experience differ staying in the 7th as opposed to the 4th?
I am staying for four nights and wish to spend 100 euro max per night on a hotel. I do like the idea of being within walking distance to so many attractions, as in the 4th, but am struggling to find vacancies at this stage! I know in the 7th I will only be close to the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe in terms of attractions, is this correct?
Thank you all in advance for bearing with my long-winded post!

hey,
you might want to look on lodgis.com, they have many apartments to rent in the 3, 4, 5 and 6th districts, are these are plenty of restaurants and you could walk to many of them, and lots are under 750 euros/week, either small apartments or studio apartments, but it seems not that small.

i looked a bit on lodgis and they have many places for around 560-650 euros a week, so in your budget, and lots are very well located, like near bastille, st michel, odeon, rue des francs-bourgeois, notre-dame etc but i didnt know your dates just check this out some look really cute, and you have all the infos on each apartment.

I have read your trip reports and I enjoyed them very much. I do hope you post after you return from Paris.
This is a Hotel Dieu Hospital and is right next to Notre Dame Cathedral (4 e). It is a good location for walking just about everywhere easily. I really love the location.

I would prefer this location 4 e over the 7 e but that is just my opinion.

We walked Paris for 8 days last June, stayed in the 5th and walked to the marais area several times. We went to the Arc de Triomphe area once and that was enough. Lots of gypsies and tourists. I feel if you find a apartment or hotel in your price range in the Marais area go for it. If you search for apartments in this forum you will find many recommendations. Enjoy Paris it%26#39;s a fantastic walking city.

If you did not mind beng in the 5e you might want to try this place on the internet for special rates.
I like this hotel very much Hotel Andre Latin (5 e). It was remodeled and two hotels were joined together.
I really like the location also! Near Luxemburg gardins and Pantheon and Cluny area. There is a bus stop right in front and the are many small grocery and bakeries and cafes near. The metro is a few minutes away. You can walk all over from here also!
You can get some good internet rates on their web site. In the summer it is great because they have AC.

Hi we stayed at Hotel Valadon which is on an adjacent street to the food market on Rue Cler, the hotel provides a fridge in the breakfast room in which to store your food along with cutlery and welcome you to eat in there. The hotel was 100 euros per room per night including a great fresh French breakfast. We found the 7th a great area with lots of cafes nearby and only a 5-10 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower.

For four nights, you want a hotel, not an apartment. Easier to book, and you can change if you don%26#39;t like it...
The 7th is a great area, plenty of things to walk to, you%26#39;ll love it. The 4th has better nightlife, if that%26#39;s of interest.

Discover - I am so slack I still havent finished my trip reports from the US trip...back in September!
I do plan to post reports from this trip!
Thanks to all for the suggestions and opinions, I really value other travellers personal opinions, they are what helped to make my last trip so fantastic!

The 4th is younger, hipper and more fun. What I love about being in Paris is walking out my front door and having it be alive. The Hotel Muget area is too calm for my personal tastes and a bit too far from the tourist stuff.

We two are in our upper 50%26#39;s, and have just spent our 6th month in Paris and always in the 4th. The 7th is just too sedate for us also.
The 5th (close by the Seine) is also great for a first timer - you%26#39;ll never feel alone.
