Hi all
I am looking to fly to Paris with my wife on the 9th of February and would like to stay in a country House/ Hotel near Paris (within 1 - 11/2 hours drive). Has anybody got any suggestions please? I have this image in my head of a traditional, romantic gettaway!
All replies much appreciated.

Boy, I can%26#39;t help you, but I am sure envious of any woman with a husband looking for a romantic getaway like you are...Good luck!

The closest I can think of is Chateau Montvillargene, in Gouvieux which is to the north of Paris. I stayed there many, many years ago: it must have been good as I still remember it.
Might be worth a look.

Sorry - meant to put this link in chateaudemontvillargenne.fr/public_en/presen…

You could have a look at the Relais et Chateau near Paris. www.relaischateaux.com. They are not cheap though.

Another near Kebabs suggestion is www.lechateaudelatour.fr/anglais/main.htm
I have not stayed there though. Just a suggestion

i second Relais %26amp; Chateaux properties; they are lovely.
Check also the Chateau Mont Royal Hotel, 40min north of the city.

Have a nice stay in Paris!

There is a relais and chateau in St Germain en Laye that has that country estate feel. The prices are reasonable for an RC est. but the rooms were a bit stodgy for my taste. I%26#39;d still go back, though because I loved the location (in a forest, yet walking distance to a bourgeois center) and it is an easy in/out from the city. SO easy, you just take the RER.

Thanks all for your suggestions - much appreciated. Will let you know how I get on.
Just one thing - what is the RER?
Many thanks
Mike

It is part of the Paris underground that serves the suburban areas.

Mike, you could try La Chaine d%26#39;Or at Les Andelys which has 4 out of 5 good reviews on TA including one by TA member formerly posting as Underhill who now posts as Catullus

According to www8.mappy.com it is 1 hour 20 mins drive by express routes to Notre Dame, if you were silly enough to drive right in to the centre of Paris rather than leaving your car at an RER station outside Paris and catching the train into the centre.
