Paris Restaurant Databases

I leave for Paris soon, and in addition to monitoring this forum, I have been having fun with several on-line restaurant databases that I would like to share. All of these sites have been previously discussed here, so nothing new, but it has been a while since this information has been on page 1, and I have seen several recent inquiries that may find these sites interesting.

PlanResto (http://paris.planrestro.fr) – this site will immediately open a popup window that is the database interface, so you have to allow pop ups from the site. This shows location - where restaurants are, with basic data on opening times and food types. No opinions. You can either type in or paste in a restaurant name, or search by geographic area, restaurant type, food type, price, and others. All in French, but easy to figure out and fun to play with. Some of the restaurants in the database have cute little videos of the chef describing the place and food.

Eat In Paris (http://www.eatinparis.com/) – this database is more descriptive and contains user opinions. You can shift between French and English and find basic street address, opening hours, and food type information. Some photos.

Guide Fooding (http://www.lefooding.com/accueil.htm) – this database is in French, and searches by location of all France, so 1st thing is to specify Paris 75, then decide on restaurant type, price and other variables. It shows restaurants in order of arrondissement. Once you choose a restaurant, you can see an actual “l%26#39;addition”, which is really neat and shows very clearly what the food costs are like.

Sometimes, I will check the Paris Bistro Index (http://www.paris-bistros.com/parbisindex.htm) for either a very nice and detailed favorable review, or a blistering and very negative analysis that has (rightly or wrongly) altered my interest in a visit (Allard is no longer on my list, but Pied de Fouet is high on my list...).

When I see a restaurant reviewed favorably on the Paris Forum or Paris Bistro Index, I will run it through “Eat In Paris” and “Guide Fooding” to see what they say, and then find the location and other basic information on “PlanResto”. Since I have yet to go on my trip, I cannot attest to the accuracy of these sites… but it’s fun to search and find!

No doubt some of experts on this forum have field checked the above information, and I’d be interested in their opinions. In the mean time, have fun searching and seeing where all these good restaurants, bistros, and Brasseries are!

I am a big fan of lefooding. I%26#39;ve even mentioned it here from time to time.

Reservethebest is the only other one I use, and that is just to show sample menus to friends before they visit.

Thanks for the additional restaurant sites! I especially like ouBouffer.com! Fun to take the reviews and run them through the Google Language tool... ;-)

If you speak French, also check out http://mmmm.free.fr

It is nothing but personal reviews and experiences by the French customers of a huge number of restaurants. I love it.

There%26#39;s also http://www.bottingourmand.com
