air fares... confusing...

Okay, so I%26#39;m not a seasoned traveler... always heard to book airfare early for best prices. So, I booked about 4 months in advance and paid 85 Euros for airfare from Dublin to Paris.

Wanted to check something out and took another look and they%26#39;ve dropped to 35 Euros. I don%26#39;t get it...

I feel sick, and angry... :-/ I guess it%26#39;s all a gamble, but that%26#39;s quite a price difference.

It%26#39;s happened to me and it%26#39;s annoying. Just wondering though, whether you went right through the booking process to the final price - there can easily be €50 taxes added to the advertised fare. Otherwise, as I understand it, the operators adjust their prices according to demand - if you%26#39;d waited, it could have gone the other way and there would have been no seats left. As you say, it%26#39;s a gamble :-( And if it%26#39;s Ryanair, they%26#39;re a law to themselves .....

Rule 2 of booking airline tickets is NEVER to check for the same routing after you have bought and paid for your tix unless the airline offers a low price guarantee.

|||

Of course I must ask... What is rule n°1? ;)

|||

Thanks for the sympathy... oh well... how do you say in French, %26quot;Say La Vee%26quot;? ;-)

As for rule #2... I had booked for a really early flight on a Monday, and then, wishing I had more time in Paris, was curious what time the later flight was the night before. I noticed the rates were lower, (and yes before the taxes etc.) and thought %26quot;rats%26quot; and then out of curiousity checked out the Monday morning flight again... that%26#39;s when I broke rule #2! :-P

Yeah... what IS rule #1??

|||

You%26#39;re going to hate me for this but...

Rule 1. Always book when fares are at their lowest.

You *did* ask...

LOL!! You ARE evil!!! ;-)

OK not about fares but sort of.

I had really wanted to fly business class especially for the Chicago to Heathrow portion, not for the amenities just the seat size.

However American%26#39;s purchase and give miles program is so strict that I could not get enough miles to add to what I already had to do so by when I had to book. If I had I could have flown BC for about $400 as opposed to $1,500 or more.

so I%26#39;m stuck in Coach with a long layover in Chicago coming and going.

However I have checked seating and there is not a single seat booked in BC yet, so I%26#39;m hoping to sweet talk the gate agent.

Plus I%26#39;m spoiled from first trip. Since it was business we flew business class with Advantage privileges, we checked in early for return flight and were upgraded to lst seat 1A and 1B. LOL except we were not told until I%26#39;m saying %26quot;but there%26#39;s someone in our seats%26quot;, which my former boss still thinks is funny.

Moi? I am SO crushed that you should even THINK such a thing....
