I will be traveling to Paris in April with my wife to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We want to stay on Ile Saint-Louis, and are trying to decide between the Lutece and the Deux Iles. I understand they are under the same ownership, but can anyone share anything – e.g., amenities, breakfast, décor - that would help us choose one over the other?
Thanks in advance

I stayed at the Lutece last April with two friends. We had a triple room that was very spacious by European standards, but without a view to speak of. I can%26#39;t tell you the size of a double. The location can%26#39;t be beat. I would definitely stay there again. I%26#39;ve stayed in two different areas of Paris and this was hands down my favorite. The day staff was friendly and helpful. I didn%26#39;t see the rooms in the Deux Iles but we used the computer for email purposes. I would think they are similar. There are plenty of restaurants and shops on the street. We didn%26#39;t eat breakfast at the hotel. The breakfast room is quite small. We thought it was more fun to stop at the same cafe each morning. What a fantastic place for your anniversary!

I%26#39;ve stayed at both hotels. The Lutece remodeled their rooms last year; I stayed there in 2004. We had a room on the 5th floor street facing. They gave us a triple although we booked a double so that was nice of them. So we had a bit more space to walk around. There was a single bed in the corner of the room. The rooms I suppose look currently like what they show on the website. I liked the staff alot as they were friendly and helpful. However, I find the correspondence to be very impersonal for some reason.
The Deux Iles is great also for location, but the room and bathroom we had were not that impressive. The room itself was typically small but it had a desk in the corner. However, the room and bathroom needs remodeling. They%26#39;re like what the Lutece%26#39;s rooms looked like before they remodeled them. The staff at the Deux Iles were not so friendly.
There are not many amenities available other than soap and shampoo; these are not fancy hotels. Breakfast is the same at both hotels: croissant, baguette, fresh orange juice, and coffee or tea.
I suggest you stay at the Lutece if you want modern looking rooms.

We are booked into the Hotel Saint-Louis on Ile Saint-Louis. The room rate is lower than the other two, and it looked fine from the pictures. Hope all is well with it. We picked the Ile Saint-Louis location, as it looked like a wonderful area to come back to after a day of sightseeing and be a part of.

pondfan1, I liked my stay at the Hotel Saint Louis (review is posted here). It%26#39;s a very simple hotel and the lobby sofa needs to be replaced as it%26#39;s white leather so it%26#39;s a bit grimy now. The rooms, however, are really small-smaller than that of the Deux Iles room I had (Lutece was a triple so that was very comfortable for us) yet it was still fine with me. The bathrooms at the Saint Louis have been remodeled and everything is new and sparkling, but the bathroom itself is really tiny as well. But you will enjoy your visit because the clerks are all welcoming and helpful. For example, I had an early pick up for a whole day tour to Mt. St. Michel and I accidentally woke up the clerk who was sleeping on above mentioned couch. It was a drizzly morning and he asked what tour I was going on then looked up the weather for me.
Perhaps the only negative thing I could think of staying at the Saint Louis is that the bedspreads should be replaced as they are pretty worn.
Btw, I%26#39;ll get to posting the reviews of Hotel de Lutece and Deux Iles soon.

So...SalemJc, what do you think? I still think you would be happy with the Lutece for your anniversary, or any trip for that matter. I didn%26#39;t even mention the grocery near the hotel. They were fantastic. They spoke little English, I spoke little French, we both tried. When I bought my final bit of fruit for breakfast the day I left, the clerk/owner (?) gave me a big hug and said he would miss me (not likely, but it made me feel terrific). I made my French step-mother proud that day!!!! Let us all know what you decide and then be sure to give us a trip report at the end. I believe I%26#39;m near your age, so, kiss your wife%26#39;s hand often, take time to just sit and watch the wonders around you, and have the most wonderful time ever. I plan to take my huband back to Paris and that will be the hotel where we stay.

True whatever hotel on the island you choose out of these three you%26#39;ll be happy because the location is the star. Imagine walking out your hotel and being a few steps away from the Pont St. Louis and Notre Dame all in one shot.
