Hotel Advice for Nice

I plan to spend the last three days of my Provence trip in Nice. I am looking for a good hotel i central location, perhaps 3-4 stars. Since I will have a car, I am trying to find one that has parking facilities, hopefully included in price. I will be there in May and will fly home from there. I am travelling with my husband, and neither of us are beach people, however we love a good view.

Any thoughts, suggestions, feedback will be very much appreciated.Names of specific hotel would be great!

In recent months we have stayed at the following hotels:

Le Royal (3*) which is on the Prom des Anglais but has very little in the way of soundproofing inside the hotel. There is parking nearby but I don%26#39;t know the cost. Great views

Le Meridien (4*) Our room was definitely not 4* but the breakfasts were fabulous and parking at the nearby carpark is currently 23 euros for 24 hours. Great views

Hotel Suisse (3*) Views to die for but we really didn%26#39;t like the hotel. The staff were a dour lot and the bathroom door had to be lifted to open and close it! Also, the closest parking in the port area was probably the most expensive we have ever come across.

The Hi Hotel (4* I think) Supposedly an uber trendy hotel but it doesn%26#39;t work and has no view! Nearby parking was 24 euros for 24 hours.

There is very little free parking in Nice. Some hotels will have agreements with nearby carparks for their guests but many won%26#39;t.

Happy hunting.

Nice is a large crowded city and not fun to drive in. If you plan to be mostly in the city then you will not need a car. End your rental when you arrive. Use the money you save to take taxis. If you plan to visit some of the surrounding towns then a car and a good map will be helpful. In that case, it%26#39;s better to stay in one of the smaller towns and drive into Nice one time to see the sights. There are underground parking garages near the beach.

We like the Hotel Westminster - on Bvd de Anglais and a short walk to the centre of Nice, not sure about parking.

4* with a great Belle Epoch dining room.

Specify sea facing room with balcony.

Nice beach is all pebbles but hotel has a private area on the beach with a bar and snack restaurant - I saw you are not beach people but just in case.

As another post said - get shot of the cas asap in Nice. Public transport is good and many things are easy to walk to.

Thanks so much for suggestions on hotels. I know that cars can be a problem in Nice, but we wanted to get to Monaco and travel around a bit. We will be there in the middle of May. Will driving and parking be a problem then?

We could of course return the car in Nice, but I thought we could see more if we had the car. I guess the key question is how crowded it is in May.

Anyone have any other thoughts?

Greetings EastCoastTraveler,

I know that I%26#39;ll get an argument from the boys from the UK, but having a car is quite convenient. Yes there%26#39;s traffic, and yes, you have to spend some Euros for parking, but you don%26#39;t have to travel by bus or train schedules, and you definitely can get a better feel of seeing what you want, and when you want. Not only the surrounding areas of Nice, but Nice itself. Just as a precaution, don%26#39;t leave anything in the car that signifies that you%26#39;re a tourist. That includes luggage in the trunk. There are always creeps that know rentals, and you don%26#39;t need grief. Whatever, wherever,or however, enjoy!

When you say you want to travel to Monaco mid-May, check that your dates don%26#39;t clash with the Monaco Grand Prix because much of the Principality is cordoned off.

|||

I will definitely follow the advice to check out the schedule in Monoco. Thanks for the tip. We will be there from the 13th or 14th of May until the 18th. Still trying to establish how bad traffic is during this time. I am checking out all the hotel suggestions and would appriciate any other tips or feedbak.

Thanks again for the always useful information!

Hi EastCoastTraveler,

Traffic is traffic! You can get around anyplace. It%26#39;s not as if everything stops. Some places you creep, but for the most part, it%26#39;s not an impossible situation. By the way the Grand prix of Monaco will be held May 24-27, so that won%26#39;t conflict with your schedule. I%26#39;m a car guy, so having one makes going places totally on my terms, both time and destination! Have fun!
