Are there castles that rent out rooms in SW France?

I am venturing out of the Pairsy by car and my first stop would be Versailles then to Chartre, the Loire area and points SW for 5 days of touring in my rented chariot.

We intend on using the secondary roads to visit whatever happens to catch our fancy along the way.

Would anyone know of any castles that are now converted to a hotel so we can spend a night in one in a SW direction .

And i am unsure about taking the car my first day out of the city to Versailles as i have read that it is just as easy to take public trans -portaion for that tour.

I have somewhat answered my own question about castles by searching the web. I must say that a one night stay is not for a frugal traveller. But ya only do it once i guess.

Still need help on the driving to Versailles question please.

It%26#39;s very easy to take the RER to Versailles to see the Chateau. It%26#39;s also very easy to take an SNCF train to Chartres... maybe you could pick up your car in Chartres to explore the Loire..

We stayed at Manoir les Minimes in Amboise a couple of years ago for about 125Euro. Enclosed courtyard to park the car, easy access to the D-road (secondary road). As the name implies, it%26#39;s more a manor house but it%26#39;s situated at the foot of the bluff holding the Chateau d%26#39;Amboise. We had a %26#39;tradition%26#39; room - the price is now more like 135E. See the photo w/ the wood beams and red pillows...

There are small %26#39;chateaux%26#39; that operate as hotels and have reasonably priced rooms (say, 150-300 Euro range). Maybe these will help:

Hi Mrkooks

If you google chateau + hotel + dordogne there are some reasonably priced rooms in converted chateaux or manor houses in the Dordogne in SW France. Here are a few sites that came up

Thank you both for the suggestions. I have bookmarked them and will print out details to take with me.
