Can anyone help? - I%26#39;m trying to work out flight times etc based around ferry times between Bastia %26amp; Livorno. Although I%26#39;ve found the ferry website it doesn%26#39;t tell me when I must actually be at the ferry terminal if we%26#39;re travelling with a car. This will decide which flight we book. Thanks

It%26#39;s usually an hour to an hour and a half before the sailing. Have you checked that you will be allowed to bring your hire car from Italy to Corsica?

Do you know something - I never even considered there may be complications. I%26#39;m assuming it%26#39;s because of the France/Italy thing? I will check with the car hire company before booking anything. Thanks for the advice. From other forum entries, you obviously appear well travelled in this area. Anything you recommend? I%26#39;m planning a weeks stay in the Relais Santa Chiara in San Gimignano and then a week over to Corsica.

We did almost the same holiday as this last June. But we hired a car in each country. We were able to pick up the car in Pisa and leave it back in Livorno with no extra charge. It would be much more convenient to bring the car over with you, but you really must check if this is possible. Staying in San Gimignano is ideally central for seeing that part of Tuscany. We stayed in Volterra. We had an idyllic week in Tuscany and then Corsica is such a contrast. The sea crossing is just another great part of the holiday for us.
From Bastia you have good access to any part of Corsica. All the best roads run from Bastia. It is just a question of deciding which part you want to see. Don%26#39;t try to see it all in one week. There is a lot of very good information to be had on this forum about each region. Basically everywhere in Corsica is wonderful, but definitely venture further than the beaches immediatly south of Bastia, which is the least interesting part.
If you do find you can%26#39;t bring the hire car over, I will be able to tell you how we went about the transfer.

Thanks IR - well the deed is done, I%26#39;ve gone ahead and booked our flights and accommodation for Aug/Sept. I just need to work out the finer points around the car hire now before I can book ferries etc. What difference does it make to the car hire company where we take the car between the pick-up and drop-off dates? It%26#39;s our intention (at present) to pick up and drop off at Pisa airport so I didn%26#39;t think it would matter where we took the car in the interim?... Surely if I wanted to drive to Aberdeen and back, it wouldn%26#39;t matter so long as the car turned up in the airport forecourt on the expected return date, or am I just missing the point? Who is it who will object - the car hire company, as I certainly don%26#39;t intend supplying them with my itinerary. What specific problems did you encounter? Spell it out for me please, I%26#39;m obviously new to this game!!

%26quot;It%26#39;s all in the small print%26quot; , as they say. A lot of hire firms have a list of driving restrictions and there are certain countries you can%26#39;t drive into. For example, at one time Corsica was on the restricted list of Hertz from Italy, but it doesn%26#39;t appear to be on their list now. It%26#39;s just a matter of e-mailing the company and checking that you are covered to drive the car to Corsica. It%26#39;s better than finding out when you get there.
