I read that you had to check backpacks at the door before most museums will allow you to enter, and that this could be very time consuming. Is this true, and if so, how small of a backpack or purse will they allow you to take in.

We checked in our coats and backpacks when we entered the Louvre, Orsay and Orangerie. It only takes about 5 or 10 minutes. Not very long at all. However, we went in November so we did not have the extreme crowds of summer.

Paris Experts!! Or those who have recently visited Paris museums! Your help on this please!
What will they allow in and what has to be checked?
Does this inlcude a women%26#39;s purse or a man%26#39;s European bag (similar size, but never called a purse!)?
Thanks!!

I had a bag that went over my mody, sort of like a big purse that I had camera and guidebooks in. We were able to carry that in no problem. Backpacks were usually ckecked. If it looked like a purse, it appeared to be ok. However, mine was a larger swuare bag and noone asked me any questions.
