Thanks to all who responded to my earlier questions! I%26#39;ll be in the Dordogne region this July with my two children 5 %26amp; 11 for 5 nights after having visited Paris. My husband will be joining me from England for a long weekend...my question is should we stay in the Dordogne region (I%26#39;ll be in Sarlat with my children) at a different property for the long weekend w/my husband, or should we travel to the Spanish Mediterranean coast or France%26#39;s Cote d%26#39;Azure? After the weekend (3 or 4 nights) we have to travel back to England (Manchester specifically). While I%26#39;ve travelled in France before, my children and husband have not...I think they%26#39;d like the coast but I%26#39;m worried about the amount of travel? How long are the flights from South of France or Spain to Manchester? Any great resorts or hotels that are nice for children - sandy beaches, snorkeling, not so loud and crazy and at least a 3-star or more?
Thanks for any help!!!

All the Mediterranean towns and village — and in particular the beaches — will be jammed with vacationers in July. That said, and assuming you want to go anyway, will you be travelling by car or train? It is a long way from Sarlat to either the Côte d%26#39;Azur or the Costa Brava in Spain. However you travel it will certainly take you a lot longer than it would to fly from Nice or Barcelona to Manchester. The flight would probably take around 2 hours, surely less than 2.5. Driving from Sarlat to Cannes for example would probably take 7-8 hours with minimal stops, assuming you didn%26#39;t hit any slow-moving traffic, and in July that is certainly not guaranteed.
There are magnificent beaches much closer to Sarlat on the Atlantic — or to be more accurate Bay of Biscay — coast, indeed many would tell you that this coast has better beaches than the Mediterranean.

St Jean de Luz is a delightful town south of Biaritz, and close enough to San Sebastien to sample some wonderful tapas. Collieure on the Meditterean is also lovely, but the beach is not as pretty as in St. Jean d L. Each a doable, nice drive from Sarlat.

We have a house in the dordogne area and have often thought about going to Cote D%26#39;Azur for part of our summer holiday. Two reasons NOT to go are 1)the drive to Cote D%26#39;Azur will take as long as that to reach the Dordogne and 2) The area is really crowded at Easter let alone August when the whole population of France seem to be there!
My suggestion would be Arcachon or Biscarosse etc southwards - brilliant atmosphere and GREAT beaches- or somewhere like Beziers or Perpignan. Have been to both areas and had a brillaint time. Well worth considering!!
