Has anyone driven from Chamonix to nice? my wife and i are going to visit chamonix in the middle of April and would like to drive to nice. Is the drive easy? We are big Tour fans and would also like to make a stop at L%26#39;Alpe Duehz. Will all roads be driveable in April?
Thanks for the help.

Did the drive 2 years ago at Easter all was drivable. We did not stop at Alp Duez but it took 6 hours to Nice.

The quickest way to drive from Chamonix to Nice is actually to go through the Mont Blanc tunnel and then drive through Italy. It can be done in less than 5 hours by this route.
To stop at Alpe d%26#39;Huez will make for a VERY long trip, probably close to 10 hours with minimal stops. Most of that route wuld be on ordinary roads not limited access toll roads, i.e. Autoroutes in France, Autostradas in Italy. I would not want to try to make it all in one day.
I don%26#39;t think you should have problems with the roads unless there is a late snowstorm on the day(s) you are travelling, which could happen on at least the first half of your route.
Check viamichelin.com for routes and driving times.
