Is it possible to travel by train from Paris to Lucerne, Switzerland and finish up in Venice, Italy/? How many hours would be involved in the train travel? Thanks. Pepetwin

It is possible but rather long
Paris -%26gt; Luzern : from 6h30 to 7h30
Luzern -%26gt; Venezia : around 7h30
for train schedules in (western)Europe, look at reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/entables in

Not that I have anything against Lucerne, which is pleasant enough, but it would actaully be more logical to break your journey in Montreux or Martigny both of which have a lot to offer. Both are on the direct route (or at least one of the two direct routes) from Paris to Venice. In addition the route from Geneva to Milan is one of the most spectacular in Europe scenically.
Paris - Montreux/Martigny 5-5.5 hours
Montreux/Martigny - Venice 6.5-7 hours

Have you looked at all the discount airlines in Europe? I don%26#39;t know how long you have for your vacation, but why spend most of it on trains? If you%26#39;re travelling by TGV (fast train in France) or short distances (3 hours or less) it%26#39;s a great way to go. For longer trips, check the internet for flights.
