Where to buy table linens or lace for souveneirs.....

If possible, I would like to try to bring back a nice table linen or something in that category for my mom. Are there any particular areas of town that I should look out for? I%26#39;m not looking to buy anything extravagant or anything, but a nice little souveneir.

While in Toledo, Spain, I bought my mom a nice table cloth (6 seatings) for about 75 Euros.

Any suggestions?

Bouchar is a great place for linens etc.

DÎNERS EN VILLE shop, at 27 rue de Varenne (at rue du Bac) 75007, Metro; Rue du Bac %26amp; Sèvres-Babylone that has a nice selection of table linens.

There%26#39;s also a LINVOSGES shop down on rue du Bac--

http://www.linvosges.fr/

There are also a couple of other little linen shops down in this beneral vicinity, along / around rue du Bac...but names and locations escape me. And if you%26#39;re down along rue du Bac, be sure to make time for DEYROLLE%26#39;s (http://www.deyrolle.fr/)

And if you%26#39;re down in this neighborhood...keep going to Le BON MARCHÉ for a very nice selection in their Linens department.

Other fine linens shops located all over Paris---

VALOMBREUSE-- at 35 rue de Surène, 75008

HENRI LEQUIPPE---142 rue Montmartre, 75002

There are several YVES DELARME--boutiques scattered around Paris that have unusual table linens--

I forgot to tell you where Bouchar ( sp ) is located I tried to find the web site . But I could not! It is located near Galleries La Fayette and Prinptemps on Blvd. Haussmann . The prices are very reasonable.

Also BHV near Hotel de Ville is a good place to buy every day table linen.

One of the best known manufacture of table linen is Beauville Company near Ribeauville. They are very expensive here in the states. We bought several from the company store for gifts which ran about $600.00 each including 8 napkins. Depending on the size

( take your measurements with you) the price increases but it is still less than buying that brand in the states.

THanks everyone! Good thing my mom is giving me a little extra cash to supplement what I was going to spend on her!

There are many stores along in Paris that carry tabletop items. You certainly don%26#39;t need to spend $600.00 for a tablecloth! When my girlfriends and I were there this past summer, we found some wondeful tabletop items at a small store on rue Cler. You might also shop the various street markets as they usually have fun things in addition to food.

There are also the more Provencal stores that carry that look. However, they are much more colorful and tend to need a room with those colors to look good.

Enjoy the hunt!

I know this isn%26#39;t a linen tablecloth, but it is from a fab linen store: D. Porthault @ 18 av Montaigne, 8e. You can get a linen hankie embroidered with Paris and, I think recently, Notre Dame. The image changes. Last year they also had them embroidered with the French zodiac signs. They wrap them in a lovely blue Porthault paper box and they make great, easily carried, presents from Paris.

You can also get inexpensive tableclothes at %26quot; Tati%26quot; but don%26#39;t look for the Beauville Brand there.

Also I have bought some nice fabric ( some Provence style) in the Montemarte fabric store area for a large table for about $40 USD that you could have made into a tablelinen and napkins.

Some of the markets also sell fabrics and finished tablelinens too.

One suggestion that you might take notice of if you are planning on shopping for houshold items that must %26#39;..fit..%26#39; a certain space or area is to purchase and carry with you a cloth %26#39;..seamstress /tailor..%26#39; measuring tape, with %26#39;..inch..%26#39; increments on one side and %26#39;..metric..%26#39; increments on the other. These dual-measuring tapes are usually available for a couple of dollars at most sewing %26amp; fabric shops in the US and roll-up to a very compact, easy-to-carry size. Since memory is often hazy, it might also be a good idea to measure and jot down the dimmensions of any household item or space that concern you and carry these with you as an aide memoire. It%26#39;s a little difficult returning items that don%26#39;t %26#39;..fit..%26#39; to the store once you%26#39;re home.

%26quot;KDK%26quot; how right you are!!! I carry the measurments of my dinning tables, my picnic tables and end tables and dressers and curtains

( especially the kitchen and bathroom curtains) with me and a small metric /inch metal retractable measuring device with me when I go on trips. It is so helpful.

I have found that some of the French quality tablecloths are very difficult to find for the extra large tables we have in the USA.

I just love the beautiful oil cloth I can get in France for my outdoor picnic tables! My guests always comment on the unusually colorful unique designs!

I have brought home beautiful lace curtains for my bathrooms and the kitchen windows.

Have fun looking for items.
