advice on itinerary

We are from New Zealand and would like to rent a cottage in the area of Normandy. Which would be a good base to travel to interesting areas. We are two seniors with a 10 year old grand-daughter and hope to have a car.

not far from caen could be a good choice, on the west the d day sites, on the east deauville honfleur, you will be also not far from the highway if you want to go to the mont st michel or rouen

if you prefer seaside accomadation ouistreham and cabourg are nice (cabourg is my favourite place), if you prefer the country either east (beuvron or crevecoeur en auge) or west thaon area would be fine (or south but not too far as major attraction are on the seaside even if the country is charming)
