Carte Orange Help

I%26#39;ve figured out the arriving in Paris, clutching my passport sized photo.

We are arriving at Orly airport on a Sunday. Where can we buy a Carte Orange from? Can we buy one at Orly whilst waiting for our luggage to arrive if there is a sales point within 5 minutes of the station? We will most likely get a taxi to our apartment in 1st arronidsement so can visit any of the metro stations there. Are they only available at specific stations?

How do I ask for the Carte Orange for myself and my husband? My bad French would be to say %26quot;Je voudrais acheter deux coupon hebdomadaire%26quot; Will I need to specify it%26#39;s for the next week (Monday to Sunday) or will the ticket vendor presume this?

Thanks in advance for all help given.

Forgot to ask how we specify which zones we want?

Thanks.

I don%26#39;t know about buying from Orly. We bought one at Passy metro and one at Les Invalides I believe. You can say Carte Orange and they will probably be able to help you. They know it is from Monday to Sunday. Don%26#39;t know if it is not available at all stations as the two we asked at supplied them.

Carte Orange cover Paris itself. If you want to go to Versailles it will get you there , but you will have to pay a small fee to enter and leave the station.

|||

I heard that%26#39;s there%26#39;s a new Carte replacing the Cart Orange and that%26#39;s it%26#39;s send to your (France or Paris) adress.

Anyone??

Arriving on a sunday, you can only buy a Carte Orange for the coming week (starting monday morning, that is).

If this is your first Carte Orange, you won%26#39;t just need a %26quot;coupon hebdomadaire%26quot;, you will also need a %26quot;carte nominative%26quot; (which is the card where you can fill in your name/address and affix the photo. Often, when you ask for a Carte Orange (and you look and/or sound like a tourist) the ticket vendor will ask if you%26#39;ve allready got that %26quot;carte nominative%26quot;.

You can buy the Carte Orange at all the major metro stations, I assume it%26#39;s also sold at Orly (at the RER station there).

You wil always have to specify for which zones you want your coupon hebdomadaire (or mensuel) - the cheapest one is for zones 1-2; this covers the entire metro network, but not the entire RER network. Check out the network maps at www.ratp.fr

If you want to use the CO also for travel to the airport, Versailles, etc., you wil need a coupon for more zones - which is much more expensive. Ask yourself if it is worth buying a card for (for example) zones 1-6, if you are only going to zone 6 on one day. It may be cheaper to buy some single tickets for zone 1-6 on that particular trip, and use the CO zone 1-2 the rest of the time.

I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s smart to get on the RER to Versailles with a CO for zones 1-2 - if you get checked, you will have to pay a hefty fine. Don%26#39;t count on mercy because you%26#39;re a tourist. Also, don%26#39;t forget to copy the number of your carte nominative onto the coupon. Without the number, the CO isn%26#39;t valid and, when checked, you can get fined!

Thanks JanToo

Where do I get a Carte Nominative from? Do they have them at the Ticket Window?

We only want zones 1-2 as most of our travel will be within this area.

The Carte Orange is being phased out for a new card, called Navigo. This is only available to people with a domestic address in the Île-de-France region (postal code 75-77-78-91-92-93-94-95), or people working there (they will need to show an official document from their employer). A lot of Parisians already have such a %26quot;Passe Navigo%26quot;.

The Navigo card is an electronic card containing a chip and antenna - you%26#39;ll need to %26quot;charge%26quot; it by paying.

For now, the %26quot;old%26quot; Carte Orange is still available - no one knows presently when they will stop selling it. It is expected that similar chip cards will replace the normal tickets (including Paris Visite, Mobilis, etc.) at some time in the future. Again, no one knows when...

|||

They have them at the ticket window.

|||

The term %26quot;carte nominative%26quot; is more or less a bureaucratic term - if you ask for a %26quot;Carte Orange avec un coupon hebdomadaire pour zones 1-2%26quot;, they will understand you better. You pay for the coupon, the Card itself is free. Everywhere where they sell the coupons, you should also be able to get the Carte.

Truth be told, I%26#39;m not sure where---if at all--you might be able to purchase a CARTE ORANGE transportation pass within ORLY airport. But as has been already pointed out, this really won%26#39;t make any difference to you in that any weekly CARTE ORANGE you purchased on a Sunday, wouldn%26#39;t become valid for use until FIRST TRAIN on Monday morning. And since your %26#39;plan%26#39; is to take a TAXI PARISIAN from CDG to your accommodations in Paris that really one less %26#39;..arrrival detail..%26#39; you need be concerned with. Once you arrive at your destination in Paris and check-in, you may purchase your CARTE ORANGE Zone 1-2 at the ticket kiosk of any convenient Metro or RER train station.

Since the weekly pass is sold only for the %26#39;..current..%26#39; week (thru Wednesdays) and for the following week (from Fridays) I%26#39;m pretty sure that the only weekly CARTE ORANGE pass that you will be able to purchase on your SUNDAY, day-of-arrival, will be exactly what you want. At the time of purchase, if you doubt that your French is up to the task, a simple and straightforward alternative is to have a copy of the CARTE ORANGE information page (from the RATP web site) printed out, with exactly what you (CARTE ORANGE 1-2--HEBDO--16€ ...and the number of CO passes you require) want CIRCLED on that page, to show to the ticket agent, along with your properly trimmed (to approx 1 1/4%26quot; x 1 1/4%26quot;) %26#39;head-shot%26#39; photo(s) and either the correct amount in €uro cash or your major credit card. Your best time to do this will probably be on your Sunday, day-of-arrival....rather than first thing during a busy Monday morning. At the same time, be sure to ask for a couple of copies of the RATP%26#39;s free %26#39;...PARIS--GRAND PLAN--Lignes et Rues..%26#39; system-wide public transportation maps....an indispensable %26#39;..tool..%26#39; to have handy.
