Hotel suggestions in Nice?

Can anyone recommend a romantic hotel in Nice that won%26#39;t completely break the bank (meaning 90-130€/night)? I%26#39;ve been looking around online, but it%26#39;s so hard to judge a place by its website...

Thank you very much for your help.

(oh, and if you care to throw in any other recommendations - for food, sightseeing, etc. - your advice would be more than welcome.)

Greetings StepTwo,

Are you planning your trip in the height of the tourist season? If so, prices can vary drastically.

As far as food goes, my favorite is the family run Acchiardo inthe old town on rue Droite. Very reasonable, and their own labeled wine for about 12 euros. You must try the Soupe poisson, and their classic gnocchi nicois. The restaurant is only open Monday to Friday, and a reservation is recommended. Telephone is 93-85-51-16. Another great place is L%26#39;Escalinada, on rue Pairiliere, also in the old village. There, they start you off with a complimentary bowl of chickpeas, a glass of Kir, and some pissaladiere, squares of onion pizza. Then you can begin dining on nicoise cuisine. Terrific!. Two others, also in the old town, that I%26#39;ll skip description of are Chez Palmyre on rue Droite, and La Table Alziari on rue Francois Zanin. Most of your eating will probably be in the old town, or some good fish places on the Cours Saleya. Of course don%26#39;t forget your after dinner home made ice cream at Fenocchio. You have a daily flower, fruit and vegetable market on the Cours Saleya, and antiques there on Monday, and spend some time at the Colline du Chateau, which rises up on the east part of Nice, and offers the most breath taking views of the sea, and all of Nice. You may walk or take an elevator, although the walk is tough, but more fun. Being from New York, I would definitely recommend that you pick up a copy of TimeOut South of France at Barnes and Noble, to give you info on everything that%26#39;s of value for your trip. Whatever or wherever, enjoy!!

Thank you Funkster1 for your recommendation to StepTwo, useful for me as you said.

I would recommend Hotel Villa a Tour in Old town for a stay, personal, not expensive and in the heart of everything .

But what about rest Chez Palmyre? The very old lady is so nice but last year so seemed very, very tired... Does anyone know if food still is ok? We had to wait for ages last time, I was almost one my way out in the kitchen to give her a hand. Though, it is a charming place!

We second the reccomendation for Acchiardo. Great food, very homey, reasonable prices. As for hotels, we loved the Exclusive Hotel Suisse. We booked through hotels.com, and got a rate of 95 Euros a night for a room that would easily have run $ or more in Florida. The views of the Promenade d%26#39;Anglais and the bay are nothing short of spectacular. The hotel itself is clean and modern, and our room (#37, I think!) was large with a fabulous bathroom and, as I said, a view to die for. We never wanted to leave! Check out other travelers reviews on this website.

Right across from the hotel is a wonderful private beach (Castel Plage) at which, as hotel guests, you get discounts. The beach in Nice is rocky, so take water shoes, or buy some at a tourist shop when you arrive.

Although there are a million things to see in Nice, our favorite spot was the Villa Ephrussi just 10 minutes east of Nice by bus. The bus is inexpensive, the route is gorgeous, and they let you off right at the bottom of the villa%26#39;s driveway. The beautiful house and grounds occupy an entire peninsula. There are themed gardens (Italian, Japanese, etc.) and a tearoom where you can have lunch with the best view ever for about the price of eating at TGI Fridays.

We loved Nice. Enjoy!

Sorry, that should have read %26quot;$200 or more%26quot; in Florida!
