paris - the opera area

Hi

i have booked for 4 nights in March and am staying close to boulevard haussmann, ( on the rue de provence) Having gone back and read past reviews about this area and am getting jittery may have not booked the best place.

We want somewhere close to a few good restaurants for night time, not bothered about walking loads in the day but want to stay reasonably close in the evening. Should we be ok here?

Want to be able to sleep well at night so didn%26#39;t want to noisy an area!

sorry to waffle

any reassuring comments much appreciated

Indeed it is not a very busy area at night, because it%26#39;s very business oriented (actually it%26#39;s the insurance company area!). For restaurants, you will have to walk to the boulevard des Italiens or to the rue du Faubourg Montmartre. You will not be very far from the department stores, but this hardly creates animation at night...

thanks trudaine.

Is this pretty close ie within 10 mins or so?

|||

Yes, it%26#39;s a nice area, a quiet street.

I can post a nice walk from there, if you like.

hi Francophool

The walk you mentioned is this to restaurants etc. This is what concerns me most?

I don%26#39;t want a bustling night life but a safe area with a few good eating/drinking places. Am I likely to find this within 5-10 mins walk?

Thanks

Depending where you are on rue de Provence you are within 500 yards of some excellent restaurants: Jean/Chez Jean, Carte Blanche; Drouant; Fontaine de Gaillon, Casa Olympe, and very close to a big complex of cinemas.

The walk I mentioned is through some of the covered passages, the Palais Royale, Louvre to the Pont des Arts.

There are some restaurants on your street.

Go to

http://wfd.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?lang=en

search resrtaurants, rue de Provence and Paris.

For any one, hit %26quot;a proximite.%26#39; Then restaurants again. That will give you a list and a map.

thanks everyone I%26#39;ll check out the link and hopefully we%26#39;ll be ok.t The walk you mentioned Francophool would be nice too if you have the time to let me know it.

thanks guys.

If you know how close the resataurants are in relation to where we are, we are near the junction with rue de mogador!!

I%26#39;m just hoping it will be ok.

Have spoken to the people at the the hotel (Antin Trinite) and have been very nice, but it has had some dodgy reviews this month, so am know keeping fingers crossed.

Good to know that there are good restaurants etc close by.

thanks again.

Rue de Provence to rue du Faubourg Monmarte turn southward, and right into Passage Verdeau. Follow this into Passage Jouffroy, then accross the boulevard into the Passage des Panoramas. Exit to the right [rue Vivienne] and make a left.

You%26#39;ll pass the Bourse [stock exchange]. The restaurant Le Vaudeville, on the other side of the street, is a good one.

Keep going south on Vivienne. In the next long block [after the light], go left into Galerie Vivienne and exit at the southern end. Galerie Colbert runs parallel to the right--back entrance to Le Grand Colbert, from the movie.

There is a little passage across the street from the Galerie Vivienne exit that leads to the Palais Royale. Proceed down and through the right hand exit and to the rue de Rivoli. Right across the street from the Palais Royale Musee du Louvre Metro is the Richelieu entrance to the Louvre.

Go through and to the left, past the pyramid into the next courtyard and right on to the Pont des Arts--the little pedestrian footbridge below the Ile de La Cite. One of the lovliest spots in the city.
