Accommodation in Marseille for World Cup

I am travelling to Marseille for the World Cup quarter final weekend in October with my husband and 2 teenage boys. I would like to see some of the area, although I am not sure that it will be beach weather in early Oct.

We do not know whether to stay in a hotel in Marseille, rent a mobile home or an apt along the coast. Many apartment and mobile homes seem out of town and appear to be too far away - does anyone have any recommendations of any sites?

I worry that on smaller mobile home/campsites the 18year old lads will be bored. If we stay in Marseille what is there to do for a week? Should we stay in another town and then come into Marseille for two or three nights?

Any ideas from anyone else travelling to the RWC2007 or people who know the area would be appreciated. I have been told that Marseille is not that safe at night - is this true?

It would be great to stay where other rugby fans are staying.

You might want to do a basic check on ANY hotel accommodations in Marseille. A few weeks back this same question came up and I did a number of quick searches only to find no availability anywhere.

So, it would probably be a good idea to check hotels, gites, etc. in order to see what you have to choose from and then come back to ask what folks recommend.

Best of luck to you and have a great time !

Hello,

Yes we are a chambre d%26#39;hote near to Isle sur la Sorgue 55 mins from Marseille center by motorway and we already have had enquiries as far out as we are for the world cup. Everything in Marseille I understand is already booked as toutou said.

A lot of camp sites will have closed down by then as well and Marseille at world cup time is not the place I would reccomend to drive with a mobile home, lets hope all the road works that are in the city center are finished otherwise it will be complete chaos!

I think I would advise you to stay outside of Marseille and to travel in.

Look at the area around Avignon ..35 mins by TGV

Good luck

Hotels are available through the official booking agent at a rip off price. They have secured all hotel rooms in all major cities. I was unable to get accommodation anywhere in Nantes privately so had to book through them - I will do the same in Marseille if I have to - it is just where people recomment.

Goodwin - if that is the case, I would focus on private holiday rentals. Check out sites such as VRBO, RentalsFrance, etc. These are holiday rentals by owner. You should have a better chance that way.

Staying a bit outside of Marseille may give you more choices. I%26#39;m not sure I%26#39;d want to be IN the city for this event anyway, but that%26#39;s just me.

GoodwinBurton,

I agree with other replies. Personally I would look for a good gite to rent to the south of Avignon

Whenever we go into Marseille we drive to the airport and take the regular coach in - just another alternative for you.
