Auvergne Walking Holiday

Hello

I%26#39;ve a big birthday coming up in July. I%26#39;m planning a few nights in Paris and then south to do 3 or 4 day walks in 4 or 5 days - Puy de Dome, Plumb du Cantal, Puy Mary, Puy de Sancy.. I have the Lonely Planet guide to Walking in France but a lot of the walks described for this region are 2 day walks [ I%26#39;m not into the whole overnight thing just yet ] or don%26#39;t have the same start/ finish point. Ideally I%26#39;m looking for challenging circular routes { I%26#39;ll be hiring a car hopefully } for day-long walks on these mountains. Are there any books out there that might help me?

Also I%26#39;m vegetarian on the road to veganism so any info on eateries and/or accommodation close to these walks would be really appreciated

Thanks a million

The French association for walkers is the http://www.ffrandonnee.fr who produce guidebooks which cover both %26#39;Grandes Randonnées%26#39; (GR - long walking trails) and %26#39;Promenades et Randonnées%26#39; (PR - local circular walks of different grades). Both the website and the books are in French - we tend to buy at a hypermarket when we arrive in an area, so we can glance through and check what what we fancy ;-)

Alternatively, the tourist information office in most areas often produce booklets of walks. There is an index of all the local tourist offices on http://www.tourisme.fr/recherche/e_index.htm
