Can anyone recommend a B%26amp;B to stay for one night in Agen before commencing barging. Our travel agent has suggested Pechon B%26amp;B. Aanyone know it and how far it is from the station or Locaboat barges? Thanks
Sorry I had it in the Bordeaux forum!

Hi there Donnabo,
I note you have had no response to this query.
I live near Agen and I haven%26#39;t heard of Pechon.
How can I help you? What sort of distance do you want to stay away from Agen and where do you board? How are you getting here and will you have transport? What time of year?
|||
Found it! If you google %26#39;Pechon%26#39; and %26#39;agen%26#39; the first hit is a B%26amp;B in Saint Antoine de Ficalba about 17km north of Agen. If this really is the place, it doesn%26#39;t look a sensible option for an overnight stop if you%26#39;re arriving by train and have no transport.
|||
This is completely ridiculous!!!
I live near Laroque-Timbaut and St Antoine de Ficalba is 5 kms north of here on the way to Villeneuve! Agen is 15kms south of here.
Agen town is the best bet as the station is in the centre.

Thanks for all the replies. We (6 adults) should be arriving by TGV train from Paris in the late afternoon (April) and getting a Locaboat barge the next day. It would be preferable to have somewhere close. Someone has mentioned La Provence, I think a B%26amp;B, which may be close to Locaboat.

Hi again,
There are a number of hotels in Agen within walking distance from the station.
Would recommend Hotel Stim%26#39;Otel. 105, boulevard Carnot - Agen which is in one of the main streets. The advantage of staying here is that the Tourist Office is on the ground floor and you can gen up on places of interest. It%26#39;s a 2 star and doesn%26#39;t seem to have a website so you will have to phone.
The port is just on the other side of the railway line and there is a bridge you can walk across and you%26#39;re there!

Thanks Buzet, I see there is a website and one can book through the Citotel website. - Really appreciate your help.
How is the weather in April May?
|||
You%26#39;re welcome!
Weather in April/May??? Well, last year we had a particularly long and cold spring with constant north winds. My girlfriend came down from Scotland in April, so I remember it well. We did have breakfast on the patio but only when it was sunny (which it was most days). I would bring some warm clothes, especially as you are on the water.
|||
We%26#39;ll put in some warm clothes! If I have any more queries, I hope you will answer.
|||
I%26#39;ve contributed to another Forum on this site about the train station restaurant in Agen - it%26#39;s great fun! Suggest you have lunch there on your way over to the boat.
Have a good time - I%26#39;ll be here, yes.

You just cant go past the Ibis. ibishotel.com/ibis/…areamap
It is about a ten minute walk from the locaboat base.
If your locaboat craft is the Nazareth, look after her! She is a fine craft. She served us well in 2005!
Bon Voyage!
PS The first four locks out of Agen are a bit of a test for new or rusty boaters. Lots of people to witness your errors! And try the pub in Buzet on your right as you walk up the main street. The owner/barmaid is a gun photographer and real character!
