Apartment opinion on Rue Quincamoix

Off to Paris 9/19 til 10/4. I will be traveling by myself for one week and a friend will join me for the second week. I had 2 other apts. chosen however both are now booked. I am thinking of booking this one and am looking for opinions for the area and particularly if anyone knows the street. 1 Quincampoix. One advantage is that the company does not require a deposit.

Any opinions appreciated. Thanks

Rue Quincampoix itself is a bit shabby looking, however it is very, very central and a fabulous location. It is very close to the Pompidou Centre (about 50 yards). It is a very lively area with many low cost eateries and cafes. It%26#39;s also an easy 10 min walk to the fabulous Rue Montmartre/Montotrgueil market area and only an easy 10 min walk to the Seine/Hotel de Ville and 15min to the Louvre or the Left Bank.

It would be a very good choice in my opinion.

It%26#39;s a very central area; close to a lot of the Paris essentials (Louvre, Seine, Cathedral ND,...)

Although they take a debit authorization instead of cash for the security deposit, it appears from their conditions that any cancellation will cost you 30% of the bill. You may want to check that.

Thanks so much for the cancellation tip. I misread the cancellation policy and considering the shabby street I think I will keep looking.

|||

Cancel because of the 30% fee...

...but do not cancel because Quincampoix is a bit %26#39;shabby%26#39;. I was the one that called it %26#39;shabby looking%26#39;, it is, but in a very medieval sort of way. I%26#39;d definately stay there if given the chance - it%26#39;s a great location!!

the 30% cancel fee....now that%26#39;s a different story.

The entire area around Les Halles is not very quaint. It%26#39;s not necessarily %26quot;dangerous%26quot;, but it does have an eery feel, most especially at night. I%26#39;m not a fan.

There are so many places to choose from in Paris, and you have tons of time to find something else.

The apartment is just a few doors from where we live on rue de la Verrerie on the east side of Bld. Sebastopol. I disagree that rue Quincampoix is %26quot;shabby%26quot;. It%26#39;s a truly ancient rue, untouched through the Haussmannization of Paris. Most of the buildings at that end of the rue have recently had their revélément (sp) (restoration of the facade) and look positively beautiful. Walking on rue Quincampoix is a trip back into 17th century Paris.

Very little of the %26quot;shabbyness%26quot; from Les Halles and rue St. Denis spills over Bld. Sebastopol into the 4th Arr. and the area is, as already pointed out, very central and lively.

I love my neighborhood and highly recommend it.

Hmmm... I just walked by there and the building at 1 rue Quincampoix has no door on the rue. It appear that the entrance is actually at 20 rue des Lombards. around the corner. From the outside it%26#39;s a beautiful building. There%26#39;s a great little café in the building that has free WIFI internet access and it%26#39;s surounded by good restaurants. I think you%26#39;ll love it.

Rue Quincampoix is fine, close to Marais, hotel de ville, ile de la cite etc.

There are many cafes, restaurants and jazz clubs in the area as well as some trendy boutiques. It is a part of town that appeals mostly to a younger crowd.

fFrst off, I absolutely adore the Beaubourg area. We have just returned from a month long stay and it was our 3rd month in six years in that general area. We choose to stay in that part of the 4th. We are in our mid 50%26#39;s, so I guess it appeals to all ages.

I do not agree with Les68 that it is in any way scary at night. We walked around at night a lot, often 1 or 2 in the morning and have never felt other than grateful and happy to be there. Les Halles itself maybe a different story, but as I don%26#39;t do malls in the day, I had no reason to be there at night. We did often walk St Denis at night, on our way to and from restaurants in the Montorgueil. Maybe it%26#39;s because we are from San Francisco, but I never felt uncomfortable there either.

So, once more, with emphasis, Quincampoix is a fabulous location!

It%26#39;s very narrow and very, very ancient and authentic. I believe it is also %26#39;pedestrian street%26#39; as are many of the streets in that area. Maybe I should have said %26#39;shabby chic%26#39;? Anyhow, I would stay there in a heartbeat. In fact, we have just put in a request for an apartment this Oct/Nov for an apartment on the corner of Rambuteau/Quincampoix

Metrolmole, I must have walked past your home 3 or 4 times a day for 4 weeks. I have to thank you for a restaurant recommendation, but will do so in another thread.

Gee %26quot; Metromole%26quot; that was so nice of you to go by and look and give information to the OP.

It sounds as if the %26quot;shabby%26quot; comment was not intended as critcal comment just a mis-used adjective as the poster came back several times to explain her comment to encourage OP to stay there.
