Hi, everyone!
We will be in Avignon for eight days in April.
Please tell us about any mouth-watering boulangeries in walking distance of the Hotel d%26#39;Europe (near Place Crillon).
Many thanks!

Not many I am afraid. The Place Crillon has several small popular restaurants serving basic menues with the advantage of being slightly off the main tourist route.
Your best bet is to walk towards the main town centre into the main shopping area and follow your nose.
Les Halles is a central covered food market which sells everything and is worth a visit.
We have found the best boulangeries to be in the small villages that surround Avignon.
Hope you are hiring a car to see some of them!

We%26#39;ll be in Avignon for a week beginning Feb. 10 and would love to know which nearby towns have the great boulangeries. Any advice on favorite cheese shops would be much appreciated, too.

I assume you have a car to get to the villages?
Basically we have no particular favorite place to buy bread except to make sure we buy it before mid day as the independant boulangeries usually shut for a few hours around that time. Our usual rule of thumb is to look for one with a queue proving its popularity.
Do try the different types of breads available - we personally prefer the gros pain, or %26quot;restaurant%26quot; as it is sometimes known, which is a little larger than the basic baguette.
Cheese - I hate to admit this but some of the best places we have found are the supermarket cheese counters which have a very good range of fresh localy produced cherve (goats cheese) through all of the different French cheeses you could want.
The local markets will all have cheese stalls usually specialising in locally produced cheese and the harder cheeses from Savoy like Conte, Tomme and Emmenthal - do watch the latter as it tends to be expensive and they try to sell tourists large pieces.
All the local villages have a daily market on different days - Avignon Tourist office will have a list of villages and days.
One of our favorites are la Isle sur la Sorque market on a Sunday. All sorts of stalls from food to clothing and antiques. Get there early to park as it is very popular! Has lots of cafes and bars to sit with a drink and people watch.
Carpentras to the east has a friday market and at this time of the year there is also a truffle section to the market.
If you like wine you can easily plan trips to local villages to not only see the markets but also to try the local Cotes du Rhone wine produced around each village.
Have a great trip

Hey Bouche you forgot to mention Bedoin%26#39;s huge Monday market! Ah, just kiddin ya.
We do have a lovely Monday market. I too like Carpentras%26#39;s Friday market. As to Boulangeries, in Bedoin, there is a Boulangerie with a wooden blue entrance. It is located in the center of town, just beside the TABAC and across from the main butcher and a Menuisier display shop. It is not to be mistaken for any of the other 3 boulangeries in town. None of the others have a blue wooden entrance.
Get there early as they sell out nearly every single day - of nearly everything !! They are the newest boulangerie in Bedoin (been here about a year) and they bake in the ancienne style. I think they must have really cut into the business of the other 3 boulangeries as nearly everyone buys their bread at the new shop.
Don%26#39;t forget, if you go to Carpentras, be sure to stop in a Jouvaud Patisseries. They are located on the main pedestrian walking strip of Carpentras. They have some small tables inside and out where you can have coffee or great tea with you pastries. Everything they make is to die for, don%26#39;t miss it.

I will be in Avignon for a few days in May and am interested in the market at Isle Sur La Sorgue (apologize if misspelled) on Sunday. Do you have any idea how long it%26#39;s on for on Sunday and is parking hard to find? Thanks.

Thanks so much for your kind suggestions. I was wondering how we%26#39;re going to get all this eating in, now I%26#39;m wondering how I%26#39;m going to get the results of all that eating off when I get home.
Thanks very much again.
