Paris- BW Left Bank St Germain or Hotel des Grands Hommes???

It%26#39;s our 1st trip to paris. We will be there in March with our two teenage daughters. I am looking for a typical Paris experience. I know I do not want a large modern hotel. After hours of research on Tripadvisor, I am trying to decide between 2 hotels: BW Premier Left Bank-St Germain and Hotel des Grands Hommes. Any advice?

Thanks so much

For how long will you be in Paris? If your stay will be for a week or more, and you say you want a typical Paris experience, would you consider staying at an apartment rather than a hotel?

I agree with the last posting. If you%26#39;re going to be in Paris for 5 days or more, staying in an apartment is really fun, and you%26#39;ll get a taste of what its like to be a real Parisian. There%26#39;s a couple of good websites - try vacationinparis.com or parisaddress.com. I used the first one for a 5 day stay over Christmas and it was brilliant. As much as I love eating out in Paris restaurants, its fantastic to be able to buy food and wine in the local outdoor market and prepare a proper French meal. Plus most of the flats are well equipped with TV, DVD player and big comfy sofas -and its great to have a comfortable place to relax when you%26#39;re worn out after a long day shopping and sightseeing.

It may come down largely to matters of personal preferences, priorities, tastes....and budget. Either hotel will be about equal for %26#39;..charme..%26#39; and amenities. Our own personal preference is for the slightly better and more convenient location (both %26#39;better%26#39; and %26#39;convenient%26#39; being relative terms) of the HÔTEL LEFT BANK SAINT GERMAIN...as well as a more generally interesting and varied neighborhood. If budget is a primary consideration (x 2 Double rooms??), then the slighty lower rates for the Hôtel des Grands Hommes may be the decicive factor. All factors considered, there isn%26#39;t all that much to separate the two hotels....and you wouldn%26#39;t go far wrong in selecting either hotel.

As has been suggested, for longer family visits, a private apartment rental is a viable accommodations option that you might also explore and consider.

I stayed at the BW last year and the year before and you can see it was good enough to book a second time. The rooms were nice although the first time we had one looking into the central open shaft and was larger than the one we had the second year. But both rooms were clean and the bathroom was adequate.

The breakfasts were very good, typically croissants, danish, cereal, cheese, cafe cream etc. There is a nice sitting room were you can relax while waiting for everyone to go out. They will book a shuttle from and to the airport for you which costs less than a Blue van.

Location is great...you can walk to pretty much all of the museums. gardens, the river, Notre Dame, Arch de Triomphe, etc. The Latin Quarter, the Marais, montparnasse. And more cafes than you will need during your stay.

Both hotels are in very good locations for sights and restaurants. However, with four people these hotels (and others also that don%26#39;t offer quad rooms) will likely require you to book two rooms. I%26#39;m not sure if the BW has a quad; you can ask.

Thanks to everyone for the great info.

Since we will only be in Paris for 4 days, I think a hotel is a better option. The BW Left Bank and the Hotel des Grands Homme are close in price. As a matter of fact the Grands Hommes is a little more. I could get 2 rooms at the Grands Hommes and 1 quad at BW Left Bank.

Does anyone know how far tehy are from each other?

Thanks again for your help! I love this site!

First, I%26#39;m assuming that the %26#39;..we..%26#39; in %26quot;...we...with our two teenage daugters..%26#39; involves a husband, wife and two girls ??...That being the case, give your poor husband a break and book two(2) doubles with TWO separate bathrooms to be shared amongst three women...and him....on rare occasions.

The HÔTEL des GRANDS HOMMES (3-star) 17 Place du Panthéon, 75005, Metro: Cluny-La Sorbonne %26amp; Maubert-Mutualité-- http://www.hoteldesgrandshommes.com/ --will be located on the south side of the Place du Pantheon...right across the street from the Pantheon monument in the 5eme-Latin Quarter

The HÔTEL LEFT BANK SAINT GERMAIN (3-star) 9 rue de l%26#39;Ancienne Comédie (btwn: Blvd. Saint Germain %26amp; Carrefour de Buci), 75006, Metro: Odéon-- http://www.hotelleftbank.com/ --will be located a bit farther to the west and closer to the Seine (approx 3-4 block stroll to the Left Bank-end of Pont Neuf).

The Hôtel des Grands Hommes at Place du Pantheon will be located approx 1 km...or approx 12-16 mins walk, south east (across Blvd. Saint Michel, into the Latin Quarter) from the Hôtel Left Bank Saint Germain....but frankly, I don%26#39;t think the actual distance between the two matters all that much in real terms. Find the two specific locations on your Paris street map (you%26#39;ve got one, right?..if not, go out and GET ONE...it isn%26#39;t as if you%26#39;re not going to need one (or two) once you arrive. The STREETWISE PARIS compact folding map is hard to beat for general planning and touring purposes)...then plot their locations relative to the sights, attractions, places and things that interest and attract you.

In practical terms the difference will be that the Hôtel Left Bank Saint Germain will be closer to the ODÉON Metro station (just up the block and across Blvd. Saint Germain) served by the #4 and #10 Metro lignes and no farther from the Saint Michel-Notre Dame RER station for the RER %26#39;B%26#39; %26amp; %26#39;C%26#39; lignes....and also be not much farther from the PONT NEUF Metro station at the Right Bank end of Pont Neuf, than the Hôtel des Grands Hommes is from either the CLUNY-La SORBONNE or MAUBERT MUTUALITÉ Metro stations, served by the #10 Metro ligne. The location of the LFSG may also have better and more convenient public bus service as well....and be closer to the Seine and the major sites and attractions.

So for LOCATION, I%26#39;d recommend the HÔTEL LEFT BANK SAINT GERMAIN but for bathrooms, I%26#39;d recommend the Grands Hommes...go with two Doubles, instaed of the Quad at the LBSG...and it%26#39;s the LBSG all the way.
