castle, villages by bus possible?

Thanks for info regarding organised half day tours from Colmar. However, is it possible to do this sort of thing by local buses? We like to do things independently where possible. We thought maybe visit Haut-Koenigsbourh castle and 2 villages. We have 2 nights in Colmar (arriving on a Sunday afternoon, departing Tuesday morning). Excited to have accommodation at Maison des tetes confirmed! Sadly the restaurant is closed those 2 days... Info re the bus options would be appreciated. Jeanette

My opinion is that you should forget about the local buses . You will be able to find buses operating from Colmar to nearby villages, but there may not be a bus going from one interesting village to another one . And you will never find any regular bus going to the Haut-Koenigsbourg, these are only tourists buses .

If you like to do things independantly, which we also do, you should really rent a car on Monday morning . That will also allow you to see much more than just two villages and the Haut-Koenigsbourg .

By the way, visiting the Haut-Koenigsbourg is a very good idea, and you should at least visit the village called Riquewihr .
