Difficulty of Driving

From Amboise to Paris on a weekend? Any advice?

It depends on the weekend and the day and time that you are driving.

If you are returning from Amboise in the late afternoon/evening at the end of a major holiday weekend then you will probably be fighting tens of thousands of Parisians doing the same thing.

On a %26quot;normal%26quot; (whatever that means) weekend, and for preference not latish in the day on Sunday, no problem.

Where in Paris are you heading for? And are you planning to drop your rental car in Paris? Or...?

viamichelin.com will give you routes and estimated driving times etc., but will assume %26quot;normal%26quot; traffic conditions...

IrishRovr, thanks for the reply. We will be leaving Amboise around 8:00am on a Sunday going to CDG to drop our rental car off and fly home.

I may be over-cautious or whatever, but I%26#39;m not a huge fan of long drives, I think about 275km in this case, on strange roads to a major and somewhat complicated airport where you will have to find the drop-off area and deal with getting rid of your car hopefully after you have found somewhere handy to get fuel so you won%26#39;t be charged an arm and a leg for it by the rental company before getting to your terminal and finding your check-in area where recommended check-in time is at least 3 hours before departure (and some people have said this is not enough) on the morning of a flight home to the US. (Yes I did that deliberately...) If I were going to do it from Amboise I would probably want to leave 8 hours before my flight time.

My preference would be to have a leisurely drive back to Paris on the day before, perhaps visiting Chartres en route. Then, after dropping the car at some convenient point in Paris I would enjoy a relaxed evening and a good dinner in Paris, followed by a good night%26#39;s sleep before taking a taxi (or whatever...) to CDG.
