Driving vs flying paris to nice???

we are 3 adults, we are planning on spending 4 to 5 days in paris then drive or fly to nice for 5 to 6 days. We would like to drive and stop somewhere in the way, maybe Lyon or if you have any suggestions please let us know. Also, is it better to flying to nice? We are planning on renting a car in nice. Our trip dates are Mach 31-april 11.

The train from Paris to Nice takes about 5.5 hours. The station is in the middle of town and there is car rental there.

Fastest trains to the south are the Avignon TGV [2:37] and Aix TGV [2:58]. Both of these stations are outside of town.

It takes 9 hours without any stop (so let’s say 10 hours) to go by car from paris to nice if there in no traffic jam problem in Paris , there is highway all the time but there are many cars and trucks on the higway, so you will be a little bit tired at the end of your journey

Concerning the plane it depends where you are in Paris because you need to go to Orly to take a plane (more or less one hour from the center + check in etc..)

In fact if I were you and if I were in the center of paris I will choose the train: 6 hours with the tgv from paris to nice

Do you think taking an overnight train is a good or bad idea?

Can we sleep in the traing because if the train is comfortable we may save two nights sleep in a hotel. Any suggestions?

I did the overnight train from Paris to Nice a number of years ago and I will never do it again.

I am a pretty easygoing traveller. I have no problems sleeping on planes,...not much bothers me. But the over night train was hell.

you share a room the size of a walk-in-closet with 5 other people (three bunks on each side). It is boiling hot when the journey begins, but you%26#39;ll wake up at 3:00am with frost on your nose.

Instead of spending the entire next day with the feeling of trying to gain balance, do the drive!

I not sure that overnight train exist anymore; if it still exist you will find some friends with soldiers going down to toulon or %26quot;things%26quot; like that..this could be an experience but I let you appreciate if it could be a good or a bad one

I flew two summers ago. The train took considerably longer and seems like it actually cost more. Driving %26quot;wastes%26quot; a day that you could spend on the cote D%26#39;Azur. I recommend flying.

I%26#39;ve never traveled from Paris to Nice, but I have considered a visit and it makes more sense to either fly or take a train but not to drive.

Check now the prices to fly to Nice ... the earlier you do.... the less the price is compared to the train ticket.

We did the drive to Lyon and then on to Nice and we loved the sights we saw but we had much longer time period to tour going down.

Parking in Nice is expensive ... just be aware. We have toured Nice and Southern area three times for extended periods. Be sure to try to get hotels which included private parking.

There%26#39;s some good info (including pictures) about overnight trains on www.seat61.com/France.htm#Corail%20Lun%E9a

Some people loathe them (they don%26#39;t sleep a wink) and others love them (they wake up refreshed in a totally new place).
