family apartment rental near pigalle???

Has anyone stayed in this area (near place pigalle or near Quartier Martyrs recently? Would you reccommend for a family to stay here -are there local bakeries %26amp; fresh food not too expensive?

Has anyone rented apartments from owners instead of hotel stays? Were they reliable?

And any tips on what to do with 3 kids for 1 week in Paris? They are under 10 and have a museum/gallery tolerance of about 40 minutes!

thanks for helping!

Sounds like you may have a couple of apartments in mind already as you name specific locations. If you have the apartments%26#39; street addresses please post them here and we%26#39;ll help you.

Have you asked your children what they would like to see and do? Why did you choose to visit Paris?

Hope you come back and share more info. with us so we can assist you.

You can get an impression of the area at this %26quot;specialist%26quot; agency:

www.perfectlyparis.com

Both forum regulars Mascara, Tellurian, LeSouri and I have rented apartments in that area - the agency is run by an ex-pat Canadian Gail Boisclair, the sweetest woman.

Type %26quot;Gail%26quot; in the search field on top of the thread.

Local bakeries and fresh food are all around - e.g. in Rue Lepic and Rue des Abbesses (a little uphill).

As to the kids-in-Paris question there have been som previous threads about this - I will see if I can find them for you.

Hi Trixie

As Paris 1204 has said it would help to have more details of the flat and the childrens%26#39; ages. Do you know which floor the flat is on and whether it has a lift? When will you be staying there - ie will you need airconditioning etc.

For things to do with kids, if you do a search on this forum for previous threads for %26quot;Museum National d%26#39;histoire naturelle%26quot; I know that museum in the Jardin des Plantes has been mentioned on a number ot threads dealing with things to do with kids and you will find other ideas there too

These should provide you with some ideas.

Maybe they will also love to go to a flea market ? I would recommend the enormous flea market Marché aux Puces Saint Ouen, at the north of Paris. (metro line 4 to Porte Clignancourt, continue on foot to the north, under the motorway bridge, and then the markets are on your left).

Opening hours: Saturday, Sunday and Monday 9.00-18.00.

Even if you don%26#39;t plan to buy anything, it is great fun.

(in Rue Saint Paul - in %26quot;central%26quot; Paris between Ile de la Cité and the Marais-district. NB! Only Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday 14:00-19:00. When we went there a couple of years ago there was also a show with a live magician - the kids loved it)

Thanks everyone for your help. I will check out all the links.

The apartments we are thinking of are in rue Duperré and in rue Saint-Lazare. The first one is larger and a bit like an attic on the 6th floor, the second one is on the first floor; both have elavators. We will be there first week in September.

We want to see some sights, but also just hang out in a french neighbourhood

The kids will be 12, 10 %26amp; 8 and we also have a baby(who, I guess, will be a toddler by then)

The kids have learnt about Monet%26#39;s garden at Giverny at school-they all like the Japanese footbridge-would it be worth making a day trip there? Is the town nearby nice for a visit?

To answer your question Paris 1204 we chose Paris because we have a one week stopover available to us in Europe-we took a family vote and everyone had Paris on their list. I guess we chose Paris simply because it is Paris!

We were going to do a couple of days in Paris, a couple in Madrid and maybe somewhere in Germany or Italy (Australia is a long way away and flights are expensive-it is tempting to try to see everything when you go overseas), but decided that being in one place and experiencing its flavour would be a much better way for the kids to appreciate another culture and learn to enjoy travel. And yes GitteK one month would be much better! (maybe next time!)

We rented an apartment in the summer of 2003 for a family of 5 from www.vacationinparis.com. My children are still talking about it. It was great. It was in the Marais near rue de temple. We were very happy with the rental agency. It was like living like the locals. We were close to two metros. We are a big walking family and were able to walk to many things.

In the summer there is an amusement park by not far from the Louvre. There is also the large fountain near one of the palaces where you can rent a little boat. They will probably like Versailles also. Taking a boat on the Seine.
