Hotels - l'Abbaye, Lutece, Grandes Ecole, Relais Medicis

My wife and I will be in Paris for a week the second week in December. I am considering the following hotels and wondered if anyone could give me a basis for choosing one over the other.

1. Hotel d l%26#39;Abbaye, 2. Hotel de Lutece, 3. Hotel des Grandes Ecoles, 4. Hotel le Relais Medicis, 5. Hotel le Sainte-Beuve, 6. Hotel Louis II.

I am looking for a cozy, charming, romantic type of place.

Thanks, Frank

I%26#39;ve only stayed at Hotel de Lutece and will say that for price and location, it is excellent. Also I found the hotel to be very charming. They just finished remodeling the rooms this past March from what I understand. The hotel is very cozy and romantic btw. Just staying on the island is romantic actually.

I don%26#39;t like the way the Louis II looks nor does it get good reviews at Trip Advisor. Hotel de l%26#39; Abbaye is very expensive especially if you have a standard room which is very small (11 sq. m. or so). Relais Medicis is quite expensive in my opinion although the rooms look nice. And the Ste. Beuve is too far in the 6th for me as I prefer being closer to Blvd. St. Germain although others like the hotel%26#39;s location. The Grandes Ecoles is a good choice as it%26#39;s charming and located in that part of the Latin Qtr. that is still old-world and charming. It%26#39;s also very near to the Pantheon and the quaint rues Mouffetard and Monge.

Thank you. That was just the type of information I was looking for.

I%26#39;ve stayed at the Grande Ecoles and really enjoyed it. It is very quiet because it%26#39;s located off the street on a lovely courtyard. We stayed there because they had a room large enough for our family of four so don%26#39;t know about their regular rooms. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

Here%26#39;s a review of L%26#39;abbaye I posted in November of last year . . .

We stayed at L%26#39;Abbaye for 7 nights in Mid-November, 2005. We really liked it%26#39;s quiet location near Luxembourg Gardens in the 6eme. The entrance and the public rooms are charming. The staff is among the friendliest that we have ever dealt with in Paris.

The standard room @ 199E is miniscule, and the carpet in our room, number 20, was badly stained along the foot of the beds (as it turns out, the only place you can really %26quot;walk%26quot; inside the room.) The bathroom was adequate for one person at a time and kept meticulously clean.

The daily petit dejeuner that comes included with the price of the room became a bit boring and repetitive after a few days, although the room/s in which it is served are lovely. The breakfast consisted of coffee/tea, orange juice and a small basket of bread (baguette, croissant, sweet roll). The addition of fruit and/or yogurt would be a real plus.

Although we enjoyed our stay, we will probably look elsewhere when we return next year, possibly an apartment.

I found each of your responses helpful and appreciate your taking your time to respond. I think we will be headed for the Hotel de Lutece.

My husband and I are heading to Paris at the end of April. Just curious what your experience was with the hotel you chose and if you would make any changes if you had it to do over again.

Thanks!

Ashley

we have stayed at the Grandes Ecoles and found it very charming -- the room was small but lovely (and really only %26#39;small%26#39; because we had our 14 year old daughter with us who slept on the day bed -- the room would have been small but perfectly adequate for two. The bathroom was also small but up to date.

The big plus for us was the garden -- we loved sitting there and talking with friends before going out to dinner in the evening -- the guys would go out and buy great cheese and wine and we would enjoy that in this lovely place. It is hard to find pleasant outdoor space like this in Paris at hotels.

Thanks for letting us know which hotel you chose in the end. Sounds like the Grandes Ecoles was very nice.

Hi Paris 1204 ! My daughter hopes to be going to Paris for her honeymoon in August, and the Lutece is one of the hotels that I recommended to her since I know the Ile St. Louis can be very romantic. She hasn%26#39;t had time to even start planning the honeymoon since she%26#39;s the one who%26#39;s doing all the wedding planning. (It will take place in N.Y., where she lives, and I%26#39;m here in Israel so I can%26#39;t help her out. ) Anyway, I was wondering if you have any room preferences at the Lutece. Any specific tips?

Of the 9 hotels I have stayed at in Paris

(they were all in the 5th, 6th and 7th),

the most enjoyable in all respects

was Hotel des Grandes Ecoles.
