Hey NYC - there%26#39;s a website written and maintained by a Parisian that has some really good info. Check www.myparistrips.com. If you can navigate the NYC subway system, you will have absolutely no problem with the metro in Paris. The website I gave you has some good info on the types of passes or tickets you can get.
Welcome to the forum, and have a great trip!

thanks vicki i really appreciate the help.

You%26#39;re welcome. I don%26#39;t really know a whole lot about the various passes, but if you have questions about actually navigating the metro, feel free to email me at vickisfloyd@hotmail.com.
If you%26#39;d like a copy of my Paris notes (with a bit of metro info) email me and I%26#39;ll send you a copy...lots of notes, about 30 pages or so, but you may find some useful info.

Metro station %26quot;Bourse%26quot; (line 3) is closest to your hotel, so you will probably use that a lot. %26quot;Bourse%26quot; means stock exchange, by the way - you%26#39;ll see the building soon enough. But your hotel is in between several stations (Pyramides [14], Palais-Royal [1+7], Etienne Marcel/Louvre [4]) so depending on where you plan to go, you can pick another station if that makes it easier.
May I suggest you learn a few French words, like %26quot;correspondence%26quot; (which indicates a transfer to another line) and %26quot;sortie%26quot; (=exit)?Maybe also a few basics like %26quot;bonjour%26quot;, %26quot;merci beaucoup%26quot;, %26quot;au revoir%26quot;, etc.?
Since you arrive and leave on a thursday, buying a Carte Orange (week pass) is probably not a good idea, as you would need 2 (they run from monday morning to sunday night). Depending on what you plan to do and where you want to go, a Mobilis day ticket or just plain tickets (sold separately, or cheaper as a set of 10, a %26quot;carnet%26quot;) are probably a better idea. You can save unused tickets for your next trip to Paris.
There%26#39;s also the Paris Visite pass (for one or several consecutive days). Have a look at the public transport %26quot;zones%26quot; - most of the time you will be traveling in zones 1-2, but if you leave Paris proper (by RER, to go to Versailles, the airport, etc.), you enter zones 3 to 7 and you will need other, more expensive tickets.
All info on the Paris transport system is available on www.ratp.fr. Note that part of this site is in English - but if you visit the English part of the site, you will only see the ticket types targeted at tourists.
Bon voyage!

If you want to try the bus system, I can describe a self-guided tour, starting with the 29 directly across the street from the Bourse Metro.
At the Bourse [stock exchange] you%26#39;ll see Le Vaudeville--a very good restaurant.

Hi Nycoshi
Until someone like kdksail sees your question and can give you personalised advice on which passes to use, I did a search on the forum for the words %26quot;carte orange%26quot; and also one for %26quot;mobilis%26quot;. They are two types of travel pass; CO for a week starting on a Monday and the Mobilis a daily travel pass.
I found this thread on which kdk gave very helpful advice to a person who was arriving on a friday and leaving on a Thursday and therefore had similar issues to yours.
