Restaurant Advice

First, thank you to all the people who post. I leave in 2 weeks and have really used this site to plan my trip.

I have made only 1 dinner reservation, its at the Eiffel tower. I have our itinerary planned for each day. I was thinking that we could find restaurants/cafes/bistros as we go. If it were just my husband and myself, it would be a much more romantic trip and I would plan more dining experiences. But we have our 11 year old, this trip is really for him. While we still want to enjoy some French cuisine, am I safe in not making any more reservations and finding restaurants as we go? I just dont know how long we will spend at different places and do not want to pin ourselves down and cut one of our experiences short because we have to be at a restaurant at a certain time. Hope this makes sense.

Thank you so much.

When I go I only make a couple of reservations also and I have no problems finding good places to eat.

Here is a web site you might be interested in reading for children activites etc.

If you are going to Rodin Museum there is a very good cafe in the garden.... It was very reasonable. Also the Louvre has a very good Food Court ( lots of choices!) that is in the underground mall ...up the escalator.

Hi Jenny, You will have no trouble finding nice little places to eat in February in Paris. I recommend that you try some in the Marais and just pick one as you wander during the day or go there in the evening and look around. For casual meals in the 4th there are a number of nice places in rue Vieille du Temple around the intersection of rue du Tresor but there are any number as you walk around.

Thanks guys...so helpful as usual!

Jenny:

Although it%26#39;s easy to find places to eat at every corner in Paris, I would at least make a short list of restaurants that may be of interest to you. Then if you happen to be nearby one, you can always pop in and try to get a table. I hate when I%26#39;m out in a neighborhood and say, %26quot;hey, I remember reading about a good place to eat around here, but I can%26#39;t remember the name.%26quot; But I agree, there%26#39;s no need to pin down exact times and dinner locations for every night you%26#39;re there. Bon appetit!

Hi Jenny!

Personally, I wouldn%26#39;t do dinner at the Eiffel Tower...too touristy, not one local will be there...but I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;s good.

There is so much food available in Paris.

May I suggest a wonderful Italian restaurant my the Arc De Triomphe? It%26#39;s called Finzi and they make thier own mozzarella and parmesan cheeses. The beef carpaccio was to die for!

182, boulevard Haussmann

Not all restaurants in Paris will be as expensive as the one in la Tour Eiffel, and they can be as good if not better( In that restaurant you%26#39;ll pay for the view..... which you can admire for free anyway from any other places on the same floor)

May i suggest one of my favorite. It is called Le Souffle and it is on Rue du Mont Thabor ( a street paralle to Rue de Rivoli) and it specializes in gorgeous souffles ( if you like them). Reservations are mandatory as it is always full.

|||

If there are particular restaurants you want to try, do reserve. Many of Paris%26#39;s best bistros (not meaning most expensive, but best food) are tiny and booked.

Even the large brasseries are sometimes booked and you%26#39;ll have to wait.

I would book at anything you absolutely must try, but remember that dinnertime in France is usually not until around 8 - 9 p.m., so you will be done with most of the day%26#39;s activities by then.

Wow, thanks again everyone, I am taking notes and will try some of these restaurants. Food is definitly an important part to a trip like this.
