We are looking for some first hand recommendations for self catering accommodation in Carcassonne for a couple of weeks in April for two people. We will not be renting a car so we are looking for accommodation in Carcassonne itself. Can anyone recommend a one or two bed townhouse/apartment/ with seating area and small kitchen. Looking to spend circa €450 per week.

We stayed for a week self-catering in Carcassonne last year. We found the place through Gites de France http://www.audevacances.fr/ selecting meublĂ© de tourisme. We paid under €250 and it was OK for a week, but I wouldn%26#39;t go as far as recommending it unreservedly! What are you planning to do for the fortnight? I could imagine a long weekend - or even a week - in Carcassonne without a car, but we felt there was a lot to see around the region, particularly the Cathar castles, which really wouldn%26#39;t be possible without transport.

Thanks Diz. I have looked at some of the rental accommodation that is available and from just looking at the pictures I am scratching myself. I have this thing where I don%26#39;t want to pay for accommodation that is below the standard of my own home. I am happy enough with traditional and I understand that I am visiting another country but you know....I prefer not to stay in a hotel as I do this about 8 other times a year on my various trips, it%26#39;s nice to be able to make yourself a sandwich if you want one. It looks as if I may have to rent a car when I am there, just a couple of questions on that. Can I rent one in the town of Carcassonne rather than from the airport and is it cheaper/preferable to rent from home via the internet rather than turn up at the rental agency?
Thanks
