We will be arriving from Paris by train and are wondering if we should stay in Dijon or at some of the amazing hotels just outside. This is our first visit and we aren%26#39;t sure if we will rent a car while in Dijon to travel around. What are our options? Also how many days is %26#39;enough%26#39; to see the area?
Thanks!

Hi travellergirl and welcome to the forums!
First might I gently suggest that you pick up a copy of the Michelin Green Guide to Burgundy? The region is huge and Dijon and the immediate area, while important and interesting, isn%26#39;t even a quarter of it.
Having looked at a guidebook, what I am going to suggest may make more sense to you. By all means take a train to Dijon, spend at least a half day exploring the city, possibly even stay overnight, and then pick up a car to begin to explore the rest of the region. I%26#39;m not going to suggest an itinerary since where you go and what you see should be determined by you and based on your interests. There are (of course) wonderful wineries to visit, spectacular scenery, fascinating and historic towns and cities — Dijon, Beaune and Auxerre among others — splendid abbeys, magnificent and ancient basilicas and cathedrals, lovely villages, grand châteaux, lbeautiful rivers, and much, much more. And there is arguably the best food and wine in France with the *possible* exception of Paris...
And if you plot your itinerary well, you will end up so close to Paris that it makes no sense not to drive the rest of the way and drop your car off there.
How many days is enough? A week is really not long enough but probably more than you can spare (I hope not...); a lifetime would not be too long...

IrishR I always think you should work for the Tourist office in Côte d%26#39;Or :-)
TGT you can save one day rental by staying one night in Dijon (minimum! there is so much to see).
And then you can either take a train to Beaune (20min) or a bus. If you want to see the golden slope and stop at the wineries it is best to rent a car. Most of the agencies are next to the railway station.
Welcome to Burgundy! :-)

We have been to Dijon and stayed in a charming apartment, www.myhomeindijon.com. We took a train to visit Beaune. There are many interesting things to see in Dijon so we did not need a car.
