Hi,
We%26#39;ve booked to stay at Les Restanques de St Tropez for the first 2 weeks in July 2007. I%26#39;m very interested on any feedback on the place if anyone%26#39;s been.....
Would be good to have some info on the best beaches to visit in the area. We have a 3 year old so as long as there%26#39;s sea and sand and somewhere to buy a drink she%26#39;s happy. On the other hand us grown ups also like to splash out on occasion on the sunbeds, umbrellas and a nice lunch at one of the private beaches.
As we live in Brussels the plan is to drive. According to some other posts, the traffic can be very bad in the summer. Do you need to drive through St Tropez to get to the beaches? How easy is it to park? Better to get there very early or later in the afternoon?
This the first time we%26#39;ve travelled in July as my daughter has started Belgian kindergarten. Will we need to reserve at the Beach / Restaurants?
Thanks for any advice......

Hello
Firstly the first two weeks in July will not be as busy as August. Are we talking 2nd July onwards? The French school holidays start on the 4th July. I suggest you get a detailed map of the area so you can see the smaller roads. You are off of the N98 which can resemble a car park at certain times of the year and day from Ste Maxime to La Foux. When you drive down I would take the exit off of the motorway at Le Luc. Then take the D558 to Grimaud, then the D14 to Port Grimaud. Take a left on the N98 and you are right by the D244 and your resort.
There is a beach at Port Grimaud but I have never been. I%26#39;m sure you can get information from where you are staying. Otherwise the beach at Ste Maxime is nice and plenty of parking especially if you stay closer to your end of it. I think there is a boat service from Port Grimaud beach to St Tropez. Otherwise if you want to go in for the evening I suggest going at 6.30pm before the rush. You can enjoy a drink on the port watching the boats come in. The market at St Tropez is on Tuesday and Saturday, go early.
The beach between Croix Valmer and Cavalaire is long, wide sandy and very safe for children (mine spent every summer there). Go through Croix Valmer towards Cavalaire. You will come to a roundabout with some food stalls and beach shops. Take a left towards the beach, Plage d%26#39;Embarquement. Drive through the pay and display part to the rough car park beyond and park for free. It is either a free beach or there are places to hire loungers etc and get a bite to eat.
To get to Plage de Pampelonne you need to drive towards St Tropez and the at the traffic lights just as you are entering town take the right-filter signposted Les Plages. I quite like Plage des Jumeaux. It is down Route l%26#39;Epi. At the end there are two pay car parks in the shade. Then walk down the lane towards the beach Nikki beach is on the left set back from the beach. Between Nikki and the actual beach is another beach club whose name escapes me then as you look at the sea Jumeaux is the next one along on the left. Their restaurant is raised on a platform so you get great views over the sea. Some of the places the restaurants are further back and on ground level so you don%26#39;e get the views. There are always families there so no problem with your 3 year old.
With the beaches when mine were young we used to go early to the beach then come back for lunch and some shade. Then we used to stay around the pool in the afternoon.
I hope that gives you something to work with.

Hi,
Thanks very much for the info. Belgian schools pack up on the 29th June, so we%26#39;ll probably leave home then and do the trip over 2 days - arriving in Les restanques on the 30th. So - hopefully ahead of the rush! Made investment in DVD player for the car!
Uptil now we%26#39;ve always travelled June /September time (though last year we were sat on beach at Villefranche sur mer on 1st Nov!) and have stayed all along the med coast from Languedoc to the Cinque Terra in Italy - but never with a car. We always stay within walking distance of the beach and use public transport so this year is a bit of a first!
Picked accommodation because they have good pools, reasonably priced villas and the all important kids club! Maybe this year mum and dad will get a rest too. Thanks very much for all the advice on the beaches. I%26#39;m looking forward to it!
