I%26#39;d like to get all the detail about the Carte Orange, but the offical website is only in French, is there an English version somewhere? I wish I could read French, but I can%26#39;t.
|||
If you click in the upper right corner of the ratp.fr home page, where it says %26quot;international passengers%26quot; it changes the site to English. Good Luck.
|||
I did that, but then there is just a very limit list of topics available and the Carte Orange isn%26#39;t one of them

The Carte Orange is techinally not designed for visitors, so the RATP do not put the information in English.
Essentially, it is an unlimited-use pass for public/mass transportation within the city and it%26#39;s immediate suburbs. It is sold for transportation zones that include the 20 arrondisements (1-2), and then further out for people commuting into work from the suburbs. All the way to Zone 8. It is a weekly pass that is valid for use from Monday to Sunday. Passes purchased Mon-Wed are valid for the current week, and passes purchased Fri-Sun are valid for the upcoming week. No passes are available for purchase on Thursdays. Your arrival day in Paris plays a big part in your ability to purchase and use the CO.
On the RATP site, you can click on the Titres de Transport link to view the CO information in French. (Click Titres de Transport, then Carte Orange). On the right side of all the information that you probably can%26#39;t read, there is a link for Tarifs. Click on that and you will see the various prices for the CO. You want to look at the column for HEBDO, which is the weekly bass. The MENSUEL is the monthly. If the pass works with your arrival days, you will probably be most interested in the Zone 1-2 pass. Some people purchase the Zone 1-5 pass so they can use if for transportation between CDG and the city on the RER, and use it during their stay to visit Versailles and some other cities outside of Paris center.

From http://ratp.fr/ click %26quot;titres de transport%26quot; and then %26quot;Carte Orange%26quot;
Roughly, it says:
You can use it anywhere as many times as you want, depending on the zone you purchase.
You can buy weekly (Monday-Sunday) or monthly (starting on the 1st) coupons.
The card itself is free (woo hoo) when you buy a week%26#39;s or month%26#39;s coupon, and your first name, last name and photo must appear on it. The coupon cannot be used without the card, and the card number appears on the coupon. (I take it that the coupon is like a validated ticket.)
It goes on to talk about zones (click %26quot;visualiser vos zones%26quot; to see them).
Click %26quot;tarifs%26quot; to see the prices. %26quot;hebdo%26quot; is weekly, and %26quot;mensuel%26quot; is monthly.
You can%26#39;t get a refund unless you haven%26#39;t used the coupon at all.
I think that%26#39;s about all you need to know.

As noted, information and details of the CARTE ORANGE transportation pass are provided ONLY on the main French-language version of the RATP%26#39;s web site. This version also includes information and details on the one-day MOBILIS transportation pass as well. Even if you must use a language-translation web site like-- http://babelfish.altavista.com/ --you can usually figure the French version out. The English-language pages are basicaly %26#39;..tourist / visitor courtesy..%26#39; pages and will tend to promote only those transportation products and features that are most %26#39;..tourist / visitor..%26#39; related. Carte Orange and Mobilis products, while certainly available to tourists/visitors (at least for the time being) are %26quot;..intended..%26quot; primarily for %26#39;..resident..%26#39; use.

Thanks,
I was wondering about the photos, I understand I have to provide my own. Is there a certain size they must be? Can I take a digital picture of myself, print it on glossy photopaper? would that be good enough?
|||
(non utilisée, fond clair, non scannée ni photocopiée, format 35 x 41mm).
Unused, clear view of your face, not scanned or photocopied, 35 x 41 mm (1.375 x 1.6 inches)
I%26#39;ve never bought one of these cards. I always get carnets, but I bet there are kiosks in the stations.
|||
Just cut one out of a photo from home or take one with your digital. It needs to fit about a1x1%26quot; square on the id card. Don%26#39;t waste time looking for photo-booths, sometimes they don%26#39;t work and not all stations have them, etc. It%26#39;s too simple to just come prepared.
