Has anyone spent a summer holiday in Les Gets? six adults plus four children 5 - 13 years. What is your opinion? is there enough to keep the children occupied?
|||
Did you get any replies to your question? I%26#39;m also thinking of visiting during the summer with a 7 yr old and a pregant wife, so want to know if there%26#39;s enough for them to do.
|||
Hi Zico, just found your post, as you%26#39;d probably gathered I%26#39;d given up. No replies to my query but we decided to bite the bullet and go for it and next Friday (21st July) fly into Geneva and from there by hire cars to Les Gets. We%26#39;ve looked into the Les Gets tourist site and there seems to be a huge adventure play area which the children are looking forward to. When do you intend to go? we return on 4th August, maybe I could let you know how it went.
|||
Many thanks for your reply. We%26#39;ve friends who have an appartment in Les Gets and we%26#39;re thinking of going towards the end of August, so I%26#39;d love to hear how you get on.
My son (7) loves bike riding and I%26#39;m a keen mountain biker, so we%26#39;ll be able to keep busy. However my wife%26#39;s 16 weeks pregant and I%26#39;m concerned that she might not not have much to do whilst we%26#39;re flying down mountains.
Look forward to hearing from you.

O.K. be in touch after we return on the 4th August.

Hi - just returned from a very enjoyable week in Les Gets. My husband and I took a last minute break whilst our children were at camp. We flew into Geneva and then coach for 1 1/2 hours to resort.
Our hotel the Christiana, was a basic 2 star but included full board and had an outdoor pool. The weather was very good, clear hot days with the occassional thunderstorm come evening.
Les Gets is a small town, with a variety of places to eat including pizza, creperie, sandwiches, full meals etc. Cost varied but large cheese and bacon omelette with chips and green salad for two was 27 euros, very large prawn salad 11 euros, kiddies menu of nuggets with chips or choice of 2 other main course followed by ice cream and a drink about 12 euros - these prices were at a lovely restaurant at the top of Mont Chery - recommended - fantastic views of Mont Blanc. Lift passes - ours was a 6 day pass for approx 60 euros, allowed entry on any lift, 4 day options and less available.
Non threatening man-made lake with swimming for couple of euros, life guard at one end. Plenty of places to ride bikes, though lots of injuries seemed to follow serious riders. Parapenting, water rafting, Via Ferrata, hydro speed, Canyoning all available thru agents in town. Devil karts, giant wheeled scooters, trampolines available for children. Tourist office not v helpful, but lovely walks of varying difficulty available. Town hall had odd things on most nights - Suggest yes suitable to all ages, but take insurance for biking!

Hi Zico, just got back - Easyjet cancelled our flights, but that%26#39;s another story - so more later today. In the meantime, we loved Les Gets, no one wanted to come home.

Hi again Zico. As I said earlier we loved Les Gets especially our bike mad twelve year old grandson. You said you and your son are also bike enthusiasts, do you intend to take your own bikes? Nathan hired a mountain bike and my son said it cost more than the car hire (a good deal through eauropcar). Bike hire for three and a half days, plus protective body armour cost 300e with an additional 15e because Nathan had a puncture. I suppose you%26#39;ve got to say the thrill he had of riding the ski lift then cycling down the black runs was worth it. Plenty for the other three to do too, ten year old Marc, not so adventurous as Nathan hired an ordinary bike which was much cheaper and mostly just rode it round and about. All four enjoyed the lake which as nichojb said, was safe and well supervised. I think it will be fine for your wife, she may enjoy taking the %26#39;Balad%26#39;Aulps Bus%26#39; which for 1e runs every day from Les Gets around the Aulps Valley on a hop on hop off basis. Our three big ones enjoyed the adventure park but I%26#39;m almost sure children have to be eight to take part. The children are asking %26quot;Grandma, why don%26#39;t you buy a chalet here?%26quot; why indeed?? Nichojb, we often ate mid day at The Christiana (sp!) the food was excellent and the staff so friendly. Can you believe that when we called in yesterday morning for their %26quot;all day breakfast%26quot; prior to our flight home only to find I%26#39;d been reading the wrong menu and they didn%26#39;t serve between 9.30a.m. and 11a.m they actually opened the restaurant up for us and served us a wonderful full English breakfast. But there again, having stayed there maybe you would. Wondering if you have the telephone number, I couldn%26#39;t believe the rates they%26#39;re offering, 60e per person per night bed, breakfast and evening meal. Regarding the tourist office, I think you and I maybe had the same assistant, first I asked the approximate cost of a taxi to Les Gets from Geneva, she said she didn%26#39;t know, the taxi firms didn%26#39;t tell them, then when I asked how long the Balad%26#39; Aulps Bus took from Les Gets to Le Jotty, she actually told me to pick up a leaflet and work it out!! Gerlis, I%26#39;m not into writing trip reports but I%26#39;m sure you get the message that a wonderful time was had by all and Les Gets hasn%26#39;t seen the last of us.
