sushi

Can anyone recommend the best place in Paris to eat sushi? Not interested in pricey tourist scenes, just the real MacCoy where the Japanese go to eat. Thanks!

Lots of Japanese go to my local sushi joint, but I don%26#39;t think that it is the best one in the city. Orient Extreme in the 6th.

For GREAT, I mean really EXTRAordinary Japanese cuisine that is not sushi, Kunitoraya on the rue Ste Anne in the 2nd for Udon and Yen on the rue St Benoit in the 6th for the best Soba in Europe. Lots of local and visiting Japanese kep both of these restaurants busy.

Thanks for the info! We shall look up both for our trip in April. Local advice is always the best!

I kind of knew you wouldn%26#39;t resist to this one phread!

Let me then (out of solidarity of course) add my favourite sushi place, it%26#39;s called myiako on rue de l%26#39;universite in the 7th.

Phread, is the one you speak of on Rue Mazarine in the 6th ?? That is where I always went, but I am not sure if it is the same one because there are many sushi places. The one I liked was about 1 block north on Mazarine from where it intersects with Rue St. Andre des Arts.

I did eat Sushi in other places in Paris during my recent one month stay in Paris, even in areas outside of Paris. But, I noticed they all had similar menus and combo plates. The brioch (spelling ?), marinated meat, cheese and beef, etc on kabobs....and then the various rolls and sushi were pretty much the same variety and quality. Actually, I enjoyed it. One thing I really enjoyed was the choice between the sweet or salty soy sauce. I loved the sweet and became addicted and now I can%26#39;t seem to get it here in the states. I suppose my local asian market would have it ??

Nope, it is on a street called Palissy, behind the Monoprix on rue des Rennes. I don%26#39;t know anything about a sweet dipping sauce, but I do think that I may have to head to rue de l%26#39;Université for lunch today, Kasthor!!!

phread, kasthor and waytogogirl, this is all good stuff. I rather think we shall also be heading to Myiako on rue de l%26#39;universite. One good turn...if you should ever find yourselves in San Diego you MUST go to Sushi Ota, 4529 Mission Bay Drive, it is the best and always full of Japanese families. Just a thought for the next hols...
